Cal State Fullerton’s campus came alive from morning to night, during the “All Day ASI” event hosted by Associated Students on Thursday. This event gave Titans a chance to learn more about ASI and some of the recreational activities they organize.
With an itinerary of events all throughout the day, students were invited to a range of free activities such as the “ASI Resource Fair,” “Free Titan Bowl & Billiards,” “Student Recreation Center Pool Party” and “Flick & Float.”
“The point of ‘All Day ASI’ is to show what ASI is, who we are, all the resources that we have to give to you guys,”
“That includes the pool, that includes the SRC, the Food Pantry, the Titan Bowl and Billiards downstairs as well.”
With music, conversation and laughter echoing through the many canopies, the “ASI Resource Fair” kicked off a full day of festivities. This event gave Titans a way to discover what ASI has to offer by showcasing their many departments, hosting games and featuring food trucks.
Events like these also inform students of possible new paths that can be paved by ASI. Abigail Studer, a second-year psychology major, accidentally stumbled upon the booths while passing by Titan Walk. After visiting all of them, she was drawn to the Children’s Center and the opportunities they have.
“I want to work with kids, so I went up to them and I started talking about what they do, and they told me that they have internships open, so I was like, ‘That’s really cool!’” Studer said. “I got their card and they told me to just apply, email them. It seems like a good route for me.”
Later at the bottom level of the Titan Student Union, students came together at the “Free Titan Bowl & Billiards.” With alleys and tables filling up, students rushed to get a taste of some of the free amenities CSUF has to offer.
“They want to give a chance for new students to come down and have leisure time,” said Noe Hernandez, a fourth-year kinesiology major who works for ASI as a desk attendant at Titan Bowl & Billiards. ”Not everyone can afford to play pool all the time or bowl. It gets expensive, so we want it to be free today, just for people to try it out.”
With the summer heat still lingering, the “Student Recreation Pool Party” arrived at the perfect time. ASI flooded the pool deck for three hours with music, pizza and spirit.
“It does give you a lot of sense of connection with the school,” Beatriz Gongora, a second-year music education major said. “For most students they might say it’s food, but for me, personally, it’s about the connection. It’s about school spirit and coming together as a community and that’s what we want at Cal State Fullerton.”
After a quick break at the SRC Pool, they began organizing for the final event of “All Day ASI.” A huge projector screen was blown-up at the end of the pool for a screening of “How to Train Your Dragon.”
“We wanted to end it with a ‘Flick and Float,’ where people can just chill, come watch a movie, get some candy, popcorn and just hang out,” said Imani Cooper, an ASI programming coordinator for student programs and engagement.
